At some point, nearly everybody who experiences mental distress wants to know more about what is happening to them and about what they can do to get better. We believe that people should have as much information as they want and that there are ‘no secrets’. But, many need the practical opportunity to gain knowledge about mental health and recovery. This is what the Project provides.
Learning for Growth
We try to strip away the myths about mental distresses and replace them with sound, positive, practical information! We encourage people to take greater personal responsibility for their own mental health, through coping strategies and techniques, alternative therapies, and self management. The Learning and Growth Project offers high-quality workshops and training sessions on topics that help people understand and get better.
Who Is The Training For?
All our sessions will be open to anyone who is interested in or involved in mental health on Wirral. We welcome experts by experience (service users of all descriptions), carers and all providers of services. And if you are living in the community but not in contact with mental health services but feel some information and support would be useful, you are particularly welcome. There is no charge to you for attending the courses and workshops at Wirral Mind – all are welcome.
Examples Of Our Courses Are:
- Recovery and Wellness Recovery Action Plans
- Recovery tools – e.g. Intentional Peer Support
- Mental Health Awareness
- The History of Mental Health
- Medicines Used in Psychiatry
- Stress Management
- Confidence Building
- Anger Management

Many our courses involve acknowledging our own experiences and abilities and listening to others. Many see this as an important route to their own Recovery. While learning about mental health matters might sound fairly serious, our workshops and teaching sessions are usually full of talking and laughter.
If you are interested in any of our courses, we do need you to let us know either by e-mail or by post. We cannot accept telephone applications as our admin office is not staffed every day of the week. We would ask if you only register the courses that you have a real intention of attending. We sometimes have people that don’t turn up on the day and don’t let us know, which is disappointing for others who might have been turned down for the course. So, if you have registered and find you can’t come, please give us a ring and let us know. Our courses are very popular and we recommend that you book your place as early as possible. You can now apply online on our courses page.
Learning and Life Course Session
Most of our courses are held in the conference rooms at Wirral Mind’s Fountain Project. At the Club you will be made to feel welcome and we ask that if you have any special or individual needs to let us know in advance. The building is designed for wheelchair users and there is access to all floors. We have a loop system available. We will provide you with free refreshments and when we can afford it quality buffet lunches. The club is situated near Hamilton Square Station, and by far the best way of getting to the Club is by train. There is very little on-street parking but there are a number of car parks, reasonably priced, in the vicinity. This part of the world is well serviced by buses too. We have a bike park outside and cyclists are particularly welcomed. Travel Information
Interested in Training for the Learning for Growth Programme?
The Learning for Growth Programme delivers workshops around Mental Health and Wellbeing.
Client groups are mixed and include service users, mental health workers and anyone with an interest in mental health and personal development.
Our courses are underpinned by recovery principles, aimed at empowering people with knowledge, skills and strategies for self-care. Courses vary in content and nature, but all are aimed at providing positive enriching experiences to promote good mental health.
As our training programmes are dependent on funding, trainers are commissioned on a sessional basis only.
If you would like to register your interest in delivering future training courses please send in some details about yourself and your training, including details of your interest/background in mental health, and relevant experience/qualifications.
