“All our Blue Light walkers work for North West Ambulance Service in Blackpool, all are passionate about improving mental wellbeing amongst Emergency Services staff.
The idea for the Blue Light Walk started at Blackpool Ambulance Station amongst our team of walkers. We realised how the Mind Blue Light Programme has empowered us all to be able to talk more freely about mental health and our own experiences. We realised that with the help of the programme we have come a long way at our station, however we also realised there was a long way to go. The Blue Light Programme is not fully integrated into all Emergency Service employers yet, so we decided to design this event – where we can spread the word, get more services on board whilst also raising vital funds to keep the Blue Light Programme going.
On the 25th September 2016 we will be embarking upon a 6 day walk from Scarborough in the East Coast of England, passing through numerous cities, towns and villages, calling in at Police, Fire, Ambulance and RNLI stations across the country. The walk will be finishing 6 days later in Blackpool on the West Coast of England. During the walk we will be raising funds for the charity Mind’s Blue Light Programme and spreading the word of this excellent charity and the support it offers to Emergency Service Personnel.”
