Self Help and Support Groups
Wirral Mind run a number of self-help groups aimed at reducing isolation, improving people’s coping skills, increasing self esteem, giving people hope and empowering people.
What are Self Help Groups?
Self Help groups are made up of people who have similar personal experiences. The members give and receive support, helping each other to improve their wellbeing. The groups provide opportunities for recovery from a variety of problems and challenges, offering a sense of identity and empowerment for group members. Self-Help groups are fully organised and managed by the members who have personal experience in the subject of the group’s focus.
What Self-Help Groups Are NOT About
They are not therapy groups
They are not facilitated by professionals – each group member is equally important and is considered to be an expert of their own experience. It is this expertise based on your own experience that is shared.
They are not about offloading our problems on to others. Quite the opposite…
They are about sharing our problems in order to looking for positive ways to look after ourselves and support each other to improve the quality of our lives.
Each group is run by it’s members who aim to understand what people are going through and often pass on tips that have helped them in the past. There is no pressure to stay for the whole time or to come every week because we understand that you have to recover in your own time and in your own way.
You can come for a look around the club first if you would prefer and get to know the place better so that you feel more comfortable.
If you have any questions or would like any further information please feel free to email or ring on 0151 512 2200 and we will gladly help in any way we can.
