Don’t Get Mad, Get Writing – 20/03/2019
March 20 @ 10:00 am - 4:00 pm
Anger. So much of it about. People talk about ‘anger management’ and that in itself is a good and necessary thing. No use going around upsetting people and damaging or destroying relationships when anger surges out of control.
But anger is also energy. We hear it in the voice of John Cooper Clarke and others, anger channelled into furious poems, anger picking up the hitchhiker humour and offering a lift. What kind of vehicle is your anger? What make or brand of car and do you drive, or does it drive you? Is it more like a plane? a drone? an elephant going rogue and trampling everything in its path?
We will characterise our own angers and work with them, use their energy to fuel our poems. Our anger may be personal, political, social, – or all of the above. Wherever it comes from, our task is to incorporate this important energy of anger and use it, not abuse it or be abused by it. Giving anger a voice may be what it needs – and what we need. As always, we will listen to each other and appreciate the different voices that we hear.
